In the Portes de l'Oisans, the ski resort of l'Alpe du Grand Serre is perched at the top of a mountain pass entering the Vallee de la Romanche and the Vallee de la Roizonne.

Situated at an altitude of 1368m it is surrounded by the solid mass of Taillefer and the mountain of Grand Serre.

The community is made up of 6 hamlets (Le Desert, la Blache, Chabotte, la Cascade, Le Couvent and Jean-Poncet) inhabited by 150 permanent and nearly 700 temporary residents.

However, it is the village of la Blache that forms the center of all the tourist activity at the snow face with the ski lifts and the principal shopping area.
