Cheap ski hire Avoriaz
The distinctively designed Avoriaz resort sits just a few kilometres above Morzine and is part of the distinguished Alpine skiing area of the Portes du Soleil. Easily recognisable for its unusual architecture, Avoriaz was designed by Olympic gold medallist Jean Vuarnet, who was asked to help create the resort by the people of Morzine. Jean’s understanding of the area and the ski conditions means that the Avoriaz resort is ideally placed for sun, while the slopes themselves sit in the shade to maximise usage from the snow. Access to the slopes themselves is also incredibly easy from wherever you are in the village.
The Portes du Soleil region vies for the title "largest ski area in Europe," with 212 interconnected lifts servicing a mind-boggling 650 km of runs sprawling across 12 areas, 8 in France and 4 in Switzerland. There are 273 marked ski runs as well as 216 km of cross-country trails. Avoriaz, designed partly because of the low altitude of Morzine and relative uncertainty over snowfall, has much more reliable slopes at its height.
Avoriaz is entirely car-free, and the primary mode of transport is horse-drawn sleigh. Snow covered paths and a floodlit cliff behind the angular, ultra-modern, high rise resort creates a stark contrast that defines the charm and ambience of Avoriaz. Though it has developed in recent years, there is a distinct lack of hotels in Avoriaz so make sure to book accommodation early, as well as using Ski Discount to save you money on your ski and snowboard rental.
