Cheap ski hire Serre Chevalier 1500 Le Monêtier
As the biggest skiing area in the southern French Alps, it would be fair to imagine Serre Chevalier as a large purpose built resort along the lines of Avoriaz, but you’d be very wrong. The villages here all started out life independently and were only grouped and expanded when skiing took off in the area. The historic village centres still stand as focal points in several of these fully evolved hamlets, though the facilities and accommodation have developed significantly in recent years, creating a pleasing juxtaposition between the old and new. Serre Chevalier Le Monêtier is a beautiful village and the highest of all the Serre Chevalier dwellings at 1500m. The traditional French village remains much more authentic and unspoiled than the options further down the mountain, but there’s still a good variety of things to do here. Bar Alpen is a popular haunt for catching a quiet drink after the slopes, while for food we recommend Le Cairn or Resto Duo. Alternatively, wind down at the thermal baths, including an outdoor pool and some stunning views of the surrounding mountains while you swim.
Serre Chevalier Le Monêtier has some great nursery slopes, and though Serre Chevalier in general lacks easy going blue trails, it’s the dream playground of the intermediate, with nearly 100 different piste runs to explore. The skiing is extensive; there’s 15 black runs, as well as some outstanding off-piste. With 3 terrain parks, as well as boarder cross and a quarter pipe, the snowboarding opportunities here are equally as exciting.
