Cheap ski hire Tignes Val Claret
The main villages of Tignes are set on a beautiful mountain plateau and offer some of the finest lift-accessed slopes in Europe – or anywhere else in the world. For most people, however, the main appeal of Tignes and the entire Espace Killy area, which stretches to include neighbouring Val d'Isère, is the exceptionally long ski season here. With a high altitude point of 3,455m, Tignes’ altitude means that the slopes are open here for 10 months of the year.
Tignes lacks the luxury of Val d’Isère, but you can live well here for significantly less money, and with a good choice of restaurants and a bubbly nightlife. Together with Tignes Le Lac and Tignes Lavachet, Tignes Val Claret forms the core of the resort. At 2000m it is the lowest of the three main villages, but only a 10 minute walk from Tignes Le Lac. There are plenty of après ski options to keep your entertained here in Tignes Val Claret, from the sophisticated Whitney Bar to the three-floor bar and restaurant of Couloir. This is far from your only food option though, Val Claret has some of the best restaurants in Tignes. We suggest Le Pignatta and Daffy’s Café, both offering their unique and delicious take on the dining experience. If you’d rather watch someone else do the talking, Val Claret also has a 3D capable cinema with regular nightly showings.
Although Tignes has pistes to suit all, they are pushing their expert credentials at the moment, with ungroomed pistes, and an innovative new cross between off-piste and a freestyle jumps park. It’s a much more serious skiing atmosphere here than compared to Val d'Isère; sport comes first at Tignes, and you're more likely to find visitors staying on the slopes as long as possible rather than partying the night away. You’ll never be lost for much choice at Tignes though, the vastness Espace Killy ski area is astounding, with 300km of pistes reaching from 1,550m to 3,456m. Tignes is also very snowboard friendly; long before the other French resorts welcomed snowboarders, Tignes was something of a haven.
