Cheap ski hire Valfréjus
Valfréjus is a recent addition to the French Alpine landscape, though the traditional chalets made from local wood and stone could fool you in to thinking otherwise. Unlike the vast majority of other purpose built resorts, Valfréjus was not thrown up in a hurry to impersonally accommodate swaths or tourists, but rather lovingly erected in to an intimate village. It’s very functional though, with good facilities and easy access to the slopes.
The atmosphere here is overwhelmingly French, meaning a relaxed après-ski environment more suited to families than party goers. The accommodation is also clearly geared towards families and laid back groups, but remain in keeping with the traditional design of the village.
Valfréjus makes an excellent beginner option, with high quality ski school options in an unintimidating atmosphere. Once you feel ready to move on from these gentle slopes, 75% of the pistes at Valfréjus are blues and reds, and the off-piste is a great opportunity for the experts to challenge themselves. Beyond this, Valfréjus is excellently placed for any one of about 20 neighbouring resorts covered in the ‘Ski Pass Maurienne Sans Frontiere’. A new gondola has also increased the attractiveness of the powder fields at the top of the area for great snowboard freeriding. The open slopes makes way further down for bounding tree-scattered runs and a small terrain park. If all this is not enough, the Trois Vallées can be accessed by gondola and the Milky Way resorts are within reach if you have a car.
